July 28, 29 & 30, 2014 | 10:00am to 4:00pm

Spend three days exploring new and innovative ways to make prints both in the darkroom and digitally with Leah MacDonald, using the ancient art of encaustic painting with both silver and inkjet prints.

- Open to all levels
- Limited to 9 participants
- Register and pay online >>
- We require a $125 non-refundable deposit to secure you space in this workshop.

Explore Leahs ever expanding life with beeswax and photography (from the oldest school of view camera and darkroom to the new school of digital ink jet printing) and painting. Each day brings new ideas, favorite colours and experiments with layers and textures. She discovered this amazing blend of photography and encaustic painting in graduate school while experimenting in the studio, and since has been making encaustic photographs for fine art exhibitions and art fairs.

A photographer, a bookmaker and painter with light, photography is her passion above and beyond all. She dreams and sees in photographs and is constantly thinking of how to capture and hold precious moments and beautiful subjects.

Leah will lead students through a series of demonstrations, that will show you new ways to take the paper-print to another level. Through construction, mounting images to substrates and using a variety of materials to create new and interesting works of art. You will learn encaustic techniques and methods that she has developed using encaustic painting with beeswax, oil and resin. Working from your own images, students will learn; how to imprint, add collage elements, draw, add text and add other assorted texture making skills.

WHAT WE PROVIDE

Leah will provide instruction and guidance, materials & equipment, over the three days. She will show a number of different processes and offer critiques.
