The pandemic exposed the weaknesses in our income security as well as how we are all in the same ocean but very different boats. For several decades we have seen production and profits for the top 1% and the rentiers rising but wages have stagnated and even gone down. Along with the acceleration of automation due to the pandemic and the rise of the fragmented gig economy has led us to increasing insecurity, debt, stress, polarization, homelessness and the hidden homeless. Meanwhile there has been the rise of a way to tackle this for centuries, proposed from Thomas Paine and Bertrand Russell to Martin Luther King, the Green Party and members of the NDP.
