Intaglio Printmaking: Drypoint

This course is an introduction to intaglio printmaking, offering an in-depth study of drypoint to expand one’s drawing practice. Students will be introduced to key printmaking terminology, explore basic engraving materials and techniques, and experience creating limited editioned prints with the printing press. Students will learn to use drypoint needles, etching squeegees, intaglio inks, registration systems, bevels, scrapers, burnishers, and other materials and equipment through explorations of grey-scale, color, and chine-collé printing, incorporating various metal plates. The course will include demonstrations, group critiques, and extensive studio-time, and is structured for students to integrate their own conceptual interests into their investigations of drypoint.
