Award winning textile artist Susan Purney Mark opens her new solo show [Insert Here] Textile Art Inspired by Structure. Her series is focused on abstract interpretations of structures which have been designed over the past 3 years.

[Insert Here] really is the title of my show, states Susan Purney Mark. "It is meant in part to explain my technique of assembling the fabric. All the fabric in my work begins as white or black, and I apply colour and marks by dyeing, painting or screen printing. It's about building up layers of texture and pattern on the fabric and using it just as an artist uses any other medium." The title [Insert Here] is also a phrase used by web applications as a place holder, "I see my work as a mark in time, a "place holder" for a building, a ruin or structure that may have existed in reality or just in my imagination." Susan has used her travels to Turkey and Italy as a source for some of her designs, either as identifiable forms or as inspirations for her colour palette.

Susan has lived in the Victoria area for the past 23 years and been a popular educator in surface design techniques both locally and internationally. She is the author of several books and instructional DVD's. Her work has been shown in art and quilt exhibitions in Canada and the United States.
