Landscape Under Skin Theatre: a butoh discussion and imagination workshop with Genevieve Johnson (Nanaimo)

Crimson Coast Dance Society and Fringetastic Theatre Festival......Together Again....

Crimson Coast's InFrinGinG Dance Festival continues it's summer cultural journey, this time with Fringetastic Theatre Festival. The two organizations are partnering up to keep dance alive and infringing this summer with works that highlight a contemporary view on cultural dance.

Your body moves dressed in the theatre of its life. Draped on itself is the entire universe like images assembled in one poem of a body: a body immobilized and slow in appearance, furious and ready to capsize inside. Its landscape under the skin reveals your memories.

Through a mental imagery of nature and everyday life integrated to the body, Butoh brings the mind to perceive in a new way the body, its movement and emotions, to give you new tools to express yourself.

Memory is its source. Vulnerability, its path. Being, its end.

Through mental imagery work, we build landscapes under the skin to destabilize the way we see our body and its movements. Through this exploration of new territories, we touch an individual and collective bodily memory with which we create a new way of dancing and choreographing.
