7:00 PM to 8:20 PM

After an accident, an amnesiac bike rider embarks on a strange new therapy -- he must narrate his life through a series of static one minute shots of the everyday world around him. As he’s meandering through an odd love story and trying to reconcile his unanswered questions with his unremembered life, the therapist and the city of Toronto become unwitting characters in the patient-rider's greater essay of personal passions, including gender and animals and literature. If writing about music is like dancing about architecture, describing a Mike Hoolboom movie is definitely like writing about music. The Canadian auteur-artist returns to the Festival in fine form and remains the kind of cineaste one really needs to see in order to feel. The static-shot device will feel a little uncertain to those familiar with Hoolboom's repertoire at first. His work often consists of far more dense montage choices which work to bring multiple visual and thematic layers to single trains of thought. Incident Reports is an interesting inversion of that pattern, in its unlayered single- channel scenes. Fans will not be disappointed though, as his thinking remains as deep and familiar as ever.
