One of the purposes of the visual arts is to make the unimaginable visible and to represent the abstract and eternal. Through lectures and discussions, this art history course will explore the influence of spiritualities on art production and human expression, including Zen, Paganism, Islamic art, Theosophy, ancient Chinese art, and Medieval Christianity. Art and artists covered include John Cage, Piet Mondrian, Agnes Martin, Hilma af Klint, illuminated manuscripts, and Shang Bronzes. Suitable for all levels.
