ABOUT THE FILM:
Hunting Pignut is an award winning feature film starring Taylor Hickson (Deadpool) in an astounding breakout performance and Joel Thomas Hynes (Orphan Black, Little Dog) as the explosively charismatic Pignut.
A gritty coming of age story following Bernice, a 15 year old misfit, who runs away from her rural Newfoundland community in search of Pignut, a charismatic but tormented and violent gutter punk, after he steals her father's ashes - right out of his urn! Bernice makes a personal odyssey to discover her place in her father's heart and in the world.
Hunting Pignut offers an unprecedented glimpse into an elusive subculture called gutter punk, featuring people who are ruled by anarchy, chaos and the guiding principal of personal freedom. Hunting Pignut melds this unique, offbeat subculture with that of rural Newfoundland to achieve a film that is insightful, original, fresh and moving.
Multi-award winning writer/director/editor Martine Blue, is a resident of rural Newfoundland who lived in the squatter punk scene for 7 years: “the film draws on my personal experience and explores the little known gutter punk world authentically”, she says.
