Hubris in Athens: a staged reading
add to outlook add to google calendar remind me
Synopsis:
in a crowded, open-air courtroom in 4th Century BC Athens, several hundred citizens meet for a special court session the day after the city's annual theatre festival, the Dionysia. Despite hearing four different lawsuits, the jury can't seem to pass judgment on a single one. Generation gaps, class warfare, xenophobia, apathy, and backroom politics all rise to the surface as the lawcourt descends into chaos. The result a mess that perhaps even the goddess Athena herself is powerless to fix.
WARNING:
With more than a few winks and nudges at Canada's own political dysfunction, Hubris in Athens is a ribald, satirical story of democracy and justice that may induce laughter, rage, and/or a desire to confront a broken political system with the most powerful force of all - change from below.
