Victoria Natural History Society MARINE NIGHT Fisheries and Oceans Canada uses echo-sounders to detect and count fish, along with trawl nets to identify and measure the species. When the use of trawls is not possible, DFO is working on the deployment of underwater cameras.
Dr. Stéphane Gauthier, Ocean Sciences Division worked with colleagues in Chile to test such an alternative approach around Robinson Crusoe Island, Chile.
Note: UVic parking is $3.
