This workshop combines slide lectures with painting projects related to History Painting. History Painting was once the highest “genre” of painting, celebrating a heroic or mythical past. Now painting history is a way of engaging with both past and present, the political and the personal—commenting on the world as well as calling into question or subverting ways of representing and seeing the world. This class is ideal for painters with some experience or advanced painters looking for ways to generate meaningful and engaging ideas in their painting practice.
