Come on board for an overnight boat trip to the northeast coast of Vancouver Island! On this journey, enjoy a trip to Telegraph Cove, Sointula & Alert Bay.
This historic overnight boat trip takes passengers to the northeast coast of Vancouver Island. The area offers unique history and scenery, from the old mill site of Telegraph Cove, now a premier whale watching and wildlife centre, to the former Finnish settlement of Sointula on Malcolm Island to the First Nations ‘Namgis village of Alert Bay, on Cormorant Island.
Participants meet at the Museum at Campbell River in the afternoon and are taken by bus to Telegraph Cove (depart 1:30pm). A Museum interpreter will point out sites of historical significance on the way. Passengers spend the night in the quaint cove cottages then in the morning depart by boat from the dock for Malcolm Island. Here, Malcolm Islanders bring passengers to the Sointula Museum and discuss their unique history.
From Sointula, the boat heads over to Cormorant Island and takes visitors to Alert Bay, and after lunch, a representative from the U’mista Cultural Centre will conduct a guided tour of the Centre. Passengers return to Telegraph Cove, and the bus departs for Campbell River at 4:00pm.
The tour includes:
