Hiroshima Lantern Ceremony

August 6th has been declared Hiroshima Day in Nanaimo by City Council to commemorate the anniversary of the first use of the atomic bomb when the city of Hiroshima was reduced to ashes in 1945.
People around the world gather on August 6th in their communities to remember the victims of this nuclear attack and to express the hope that nuclear weapons will never be used again.
The Nanaimo event will be introduced by �The Owl and Pussycat �who will begin to sing at 8.45. The ceremony includes the �Everybody Sings Choir�, Margaret Sutton playing the Japanese shakuhashi flute , singer Joan Wallace and the � Norbelle Ukelele group�, as well as a �traditional Japanese dance called The Tokyo Ondo. This is an event for everyone including families and children.
