Tuesday, February 19 at 1:00 pm and Thursday, February 21 at 6:30 pm

There are remarkable stories hidden inside Nanaimos heritage homes. The Nanaimo Museum will be hosting a presentation on historic houses and the fascinating stories of the people who lived in them.

The presentation is offered on Tuesday, February 19 at 1:00 pm and Thursday, February 21 at 6:30 pm during BCs Heritage Week.

The presentation includes archival and contemporary photos of several historic homes, focusing on the Old City neighborhood near downtown. A member of the museum staff will narrate the photos and share stories of the people who built and lived in the homes. Many of the heritage homes that we see every day while walking or driving by have incredible stories to tell, says Aimee Greenaway, Program & Volunteer Coordinator at the Nanaimo Museum. The presentations are a great opportunity for both long-time and new residents to learn about the history of the area.

The Old City heritage homes presentations tie in with BCs Heritage Week, February 18-24, 2013. The provincial theme this year is Good Neighbors: Heritage Homes and Neighborhoods. This years theme covers an aspect of history that many people in the community can relate to, says Greenaway. Many of the homes have a timeless appeal and remind us of how people lived in past generations. The presentation will also include photos of notable homes in the Old City neighborhood that have been demolished.

The Old City heritage homes presentation takes place at the Nanaimo Museum. The same presentation is offered on Tuesday, February 19 from 1:00 pm-2:00 pm and Thursday, February 21 from 6:30-7:30.

The cost is $5 per person and pre-registration is required.
Group bookings are also available for 15 or more people but time slots are limited.
