A great night of local music with up-and-coming bands Gold and Shadow, and J-Bird and the Twankies!

Gold and Shadow is a 3-piece indie/art rock group from Nanaimo, BC offering a tuneful response to the natural wonders of the Vancouver Island area and a passionate focus on melody and texture. Their influences include an amalgamation of styles ranging from the alternative leanings of Bon Iver and Radiohead to the long-form compositions of more experimental groups such as Isis and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. They currently present themselves in both full electric and acoustic configurations for live shows and recordings. The band consists of Dane Letourneau, Jesse Janzen, and Raymond
Gourlay.

J-Bird and the Twankies is currently a 4 peice indie-pop group.The band met through the small Christian School circles they grew up in for an eternity. In 2009, Jordy and Robert started jamming, and learned a bit about song-writing. Long story short, two years later, they got a bunch of guys together and started to put 2 years worth of songwriting and innovation into motion. Their influences range from obscure indie acts such as the Unicorns, to the gospel music they were exposed to from a young age, to the jazz that initially brought them together, to their modern day music heroes, such as Brandon Flowers and The Killers, The Black Keys, Bedouin Soundclash, Radiohead, and many more. This is a band born out of a love for jamming.
