This free tour features five local private gardens, and four public sites with a behind the scenes look and expert advice
Native plant gardening is continuing to grow in popularity. More plant nurseries are selling native plants, and more people are putting them in their yards. And, for good reason too! Integrating native plant species into your home garden will not only enhance the appearance of your property, but will also reduce watering costs and attract beautiful butterflies and birds to your own backyard.
Here in Victoria, we are incredibly fortunate to have an abundance and diversity of showy native wildflowers, desirable evergreen shrubs, character trees, and just about anything else an aspiring landscaper could want for their yard.
Looking for a new way to breathe life into your garden? Join us for the HAT Native Plant Garden Tour on May 3rd from 10am – 4pm, featuring five local private gardens, and four public sites for a behind the scene’s tour of spectacular gardens that are attractive, sustainable, and wildlife friendly.
At every garden location, an expert will be available to answer questions and provide helpful gardening tips. Enter to win one of many free gift baskets at each location that include native plants and gardening supplies, provided by kind donations from Saanich Native Plants, Russell Nursery and Parks Canada. Other donations and sponsorships opportunities are still available.
This year the tour is being organized by Jill Robinson, Stewardship Coordinator of Habitat Acquisition Trust. “I’m thrilled to be a part of the continuation of this very successful community event that brings people together around a shared passion for native plants!” Other partners in the tour include the Native Plant Study Group, friends of Uplands Park, native plant garden consultant, Patricia Johnston and the wonderful private property owners.
The Native Plant Garden Tour is free, but donations are welcome. participants can visit www.hat.bc.ca for a copy of the Native Plant Garden Tour guidebook, or contact Habitat Acquisition Trust at (250) 995 2428 or [email protected] for more information.
