Join the VIU World University Service of Canada (WUSC) Local Committee for an evening of fun, food, and dance!

Proceeds from this annual gala dinner fundraiser will be going toward the sponsorship of our two incoming students, through the WUSC Student Refugee Program at VIU.

A delicious four-course meal will be prepared by European Chef Waldemar Bilski of Vancouver-based W Company, and music will be provided by a lively local band. Vegetarian dinner options are available.

Doors will open at 6:00pm, with appetizers served at 7:00pm.

Included will be a silent auction and fair trade sales.

Tickets are $55 for community members or $45 for students. Table rates will be announced. As usual, NO tickets will be held at the door!

What is the VIU WUSC Local Committee?

The VIU-WUSC Local Committee is a group of globally concerned students and faculty at Vancouver Island University. We work in partnership with the World University Service of Canada (WUSC) and together we share a belief that education changes the world.

For 12 months, we provide financial and social support to students who previously grew up in refugee camps. WUSC�s Student Refugee Program is one of few options available to students in refugee camps in Kenya, looking to pursue post-secondary education. It is a unique program tying education with citizenship.

This is important, as refugees lose their legal citizenship when they flee their home country due to persecution, discrimination and violence.

To date, the VIU WUSC Local Committee has sponsored EIGHT students from Somalia and South Sudan through the Student Refugee Program. They are embracing the opportunities provided to them through their successful relocation. Our two new students will arrive in August 2014.

As you can appreciate, this comes at a considerable cost. Our Local Committee has completed various fundraising initiatives throughout the year � now, we are gearing up for our BIGGEST fundraiser yet!
