Island holiday shoppers will want to circle December 9th on the calendar this year. That’s the date Nanaimo-Ladysmith Schools Foundation (NLSF) is holding its second annual holiday craft fair at Nanaimo District Secondary School.
“Our ‘Handmade for the Holidays’ market will be a perfect opportunity to find some beautiful and unique gifts,” said Crystal Dennison, Executive Director of NLSF. “We’re very proud to showcase the amazing variety of talent we have on our Island.” The fair will feature handmade crafts from over 70 Island-based artisans.
Entrance is free, though donations will be taken at the door. While adults browse crafts like handmade cards, decorations, scarves, jewelry, soap and candles, children can head to a special station to write a letter to Santa which they can take home for their own hearth or leave to be mailed to the North Pole.
Food trucks will be on site for hungry shoppers, and raffles will be held for a variety of gift baskets, many with items donated by the vendors. Proceeds from the entrance donations, table rentals and raffles will benefit the NLSF’s student support program to help local school children living in poverty
. “The market is a perfect fit for the holiday season,” said Dennison. “Not only are people supporting local artists, they will also be helping us meet the needs of vulnerable children.” For more information on the craft fair, check out NLSF’s Facebook page.
