The Parksville & District Community Choir 48th Annual Christmas Concert presents Handel’s Messiah with guest soloists and the Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra, Audience participation will be encouraged for several of the most familiar choruses. Singers are invited to bring a Messiah score! A few loaners will be available.

The Parksville & District Community Choir has a 48-year history of bringing the finest classical choral works to Oceanside. The choir has performed Messiah many times over the years with piano and organ. For the second time, the choir and soloists are pleased to be accompanied by The Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra.

Margaret Nelson, the choir’s very capable rehearsal accompanist, will add her talent on the Harpsichord continuo. Piccolo trumpet players, Steve Donegan and Alastair Chaplin from Victoria will join the chorus to make an exciting performance.

The 50-voice choir, directed by Ann Barber, will be joined by a great line up of professional guest soloists: Andrea Rodall, Soprano from Duncan, has performed Messiah and other works with the choir on numerous occasions. Élizabeth Grenon, Mezzo Soprano also from Duncan, performed the Mozart Requiem and Haydn Te Deum in 2013 with the choir. Victoria Tenor, Adam Dyjach, and Vancouver Bass, Michael MacKinnon, will join us for the first time.

All of the soloists have impressive vocal training and have performed with orchestras, opera companies, choirs and ensembles in Victoria , Vancouver, and the Vancouver Island area and beyond. We are delighted to bring them to Parksville. The Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra, led by Karl Rainer, performs regularly in Parksville and Nanaimo. We are very fortunate to have them in our area. The addition of the orchestra, harpsichord and two piccolo trumpets will make this a very special performance. Handel’s Messiah is a world famous Christmas favorite. The brilliant solos and rousing choruses are audience pleasers as well as a favorite of choral singers. Imagine the Hallelujah Chorus with choir, soloists and audience singers blending their voices with the orchestra and instrumentalists–what a glorious sound! Tickets always sell fast for this popular work. We suggest purchasing them in advance to avoid disappointment.
