The Christmas Season starts with the most famous work The Messiah by Handel performed by the Cowichan Consort Orchestra conducted by Robert Mari. The Consort Choir will be joined by the Malaspina Choir from Nanaimo. Over 80 voices will sing the choruses of this most monumental work.
The esteemed soloists are: Gary Relyea renowned Canadian bass, Monica Orso, soprano, Kaden Forsberg, tenor, and Anna Tamm-Relyea mezzo-soprano. This will be a performance of the Oratorio, not a singalong. Tickets available at Volume One Bookstore on Kenneth St., from members, and at the door. Adults -$15 and Students under 17 -$10.
Historical note: When the King of England (Handel's employer), heard The Hallelujah Chorus at the first performance of The Messiah, he stood up as he thought it was the most beautiful music. Then the entire audience stood also, seeing their King rise out of his seat. To this day, audiences all over the world keep this tradition, rising out of their seats, and standing for this most beloved chorus.
