Greenhouse Work Parties at the Nanaimo Community Garden

Join us at the Greenhouse and to make soil, plant seeds, transplant seedlings and care for plants. This is where the naturally-raised seedlings are grown for our plant sales. This time of year is especially busy with lots of seedlings requiring transplanting. We would love to have you help out and contribute to the operations of our Greenhouse site. Those of you who wish to learn how to start plants at home for your own gardens or who have always wanted to learn about greenhouse growing will find this a valuable experience.

We will be having work parties on the following dates:

-Sunday April 13th 2-5pm. The focus will be spring cleanup, getting the garden read for planting. Bring a weed whacker if you have one and we will tame the pathways.
-Saturday April 19th noon-2:30pm. This work party follows the workshop on small scale fruit production by Connie Kuramoto. We will be planting strawberries plants in interesting containers and blueberry bushes in the garden. To enroll in the workshop see below and stay for the work party for some practical hands-on fun.
-Sunday April 27th 2-5pm. We will be building compost bins and sifting compost for use in the garden. Join us to see how our compost area works and learn how to use free pallets to create a bin.
-Sunday May 4th 2-5pm. This work party on vertical pallet gardens promises to be fun! With a focus on herbs and ornamentals, we will be creating a wall of colour for the garden.
