The GVYO wraps up its 32nd season in spirited style! The overture to Mozart’s Magic Flute captures all the charm of the beloved opera. Entrancing Romanian folk melodies dance their way through George Enescu’s lively Romanian Rhapsody No. 1. Rounding out the program are three wonderfully diverse concertos - featuring talented young soloists from the orchestra membership!

For 32 years the Greater Victoria Youth Orchestra – expressive, focused, and adventurous – has brought symphonic sounds to thousands of music lovers, young and old, in communities from Bamfield to Whitehorse and from Haida Gwaii to the Kootenays. In rehearsals, sectionals, and workshops, the orchestra’s 60 players explore centuries of symphonic style, develop ensemble and performance skills, and build lasting friendships. In the rehearsal hall and on the concert stage, the GVYO brings music to life as only young people can, with verve, enthusiasm and inexhaustible energy, orchestrating joy for themselves and their audience alike.

Yariv Aloni is a graduate of the Jerusalem Music Centre and a former member of the Aviv and Penderecki Quartets. As violist he has performed and recorded worldwide. Associate Music Director of GVYO since 2002, Mr. Aloni was appointed Music Director in July 2010. He is also Artistic Director of the Galiano Ensemble of Victoria, the Victoria Chamber Orchestra, and the Sooke Philharmonic Orchestra.
