Good Timber: Songs & Stories of the Western Logger
add to outlook add to google calendar remind me
Good Timber is a rollicking original musical revue by The Other Guys Theatre Co., celebrating a time when loggers climbed trees. Based on the logger poetry of Robert E. Swanson, the Bard of the Woods, this amazingly talented ensemble has created a show of songs and stories played against a multi-media backdrop of rarely-seen archival imagery form the BC Museum Archives.
Directed by Ross Desprez with music direction by Tobin Stokes, a stellar casy has been assembled for this entertaining romp through the past; John Gogo, Mark Hellman, Kelt and Colleen Eccleston, Sarah Donald, and Ross Desprez act, sing and play everything from guitar and fiddle to axe and handsaw. With original music ranging from Celtic and country folk and blues to accompany the loggers' poetry, this historic extravaganza is a secondary journey of the sights, sounds and emotions of the early logging industry in BC.
"Its songs and stories are of unique, well-painted characters; that are blissfully and completely unaware of a big picture beyond the swing of the axe or the whistle of the locomotive. After a song or two, were not concerned with anything but relaxing and hearing the alternately bawdy, touching, and comedic stories of life in the woods (and, of course, nights on the town)." - Vancouver Weekly newspaper
