Giraffe Aftermath are one of BC's top reggae bands hands down. After many years of touring throughout BC and California the band will make their first appearance in Victoria since last summer when they played at Victoria's 15th Anniversary Ska Festival. Giraffe Aftermath have also added a seventh member Jesse Bentley that will add even more to the amazing sound of Giraffe Aftermath. In the summer of 2006, Steve Hackenbruch and Luke de Villiers walked out of a daytime warehouse job and became the songwriting/production duo they called Giraffe Aftermath. United by the sound of reggae and dub music, they began writing and recording in a makeshift home studio.
This project soon evolved into a full live band show and the release of a self titled album in 2008. Joined by the dark groove of Paul Steffes on Bass, they quickly became regulars on the Vancouver music scene, playing a rich blend of deep, danceable music. With the release of “Sleepless Nights” in 2011 and the addition of jazz musicians Ian Weiss on saxophone and Jocelyn Waugh on trumpet to the roster, Giraffe Aftermath was becoming one of the top dub-reggae acts in Western Canada. Opening for legends such as Katchafire, The Black Seeds, John Brown's Body and Macklemore to name a few, Giraffe Aftermath's live show continuously became more entrancing.
In the summer of 2013 Giraffe Aftermath embarked on their first international tour, pairing nicely with San Francisco based ska/reggae band Burnt. The two bands cruised in their matching cream coloured Dodge Ram vans all the way down the West Coast from Vancouver, Canada to San Diego, California. The band then returned to Canada, headlining the official Victoria Ska Festival after party and continued to play a series of sold out BC shows. There is no doubt Giraffe Aftermath leaves crowds thirsty to for more.
They deliver adventurous live sets of relentless groove, laced with good old fashioned, honest, songwriting. A new studio album "Space echo beach scene" is due to be released on June 18th 2014. Giraffe Aftermath's future plan is to ride this album as deep into the sonic realm of space as this music will allow. All are welcome. ____________________________________________
