The Gettin’ Higher Choir is a “come as you are” choir which celebrates all voices and embodies the idea that singing is our birthright, led by enthusiastic directors Cathy Baker and Dick Jackson.
After 25 years of practicing in James Bay, the Gettin’ Higher Choir has a new home for their Fall 2022 season in the brand-new Esquimalt Gorge Park Pavilion. The season starts on Sept. 20, 2022 with in-person practices each Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
“It’s so gorgeous, spacious and airy! We can’t wait to hear this beautiful room ringing with harmonies - and the view over the forest and the Gorge Waterway is glorious,” said Cathy Baker, Gettin’ Higher Choir co-director.
For the first two weeks, new singers are warmly welcomed to one free orientation session from 6:30 to 7 p.m. in person or on Zoom on Tuesdays, and on Zoom only on Thursdays. The Gettin’ Higher Choir believes that singing is our birthright - there are no auditions and everyone is welcome to sing in harmony!
Regular practices will be on Tuesdays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. either in person or on Zoom, and Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. on Zoom only. Wednesday Sing-in Sessions will also be available on Wednesdays from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Zoom only. In-person singers will be kindly asked to wear masks and declare vaccination status when applying.
“We sing soul-nourishing songs from folk music old and new, from near and far, current musical theatre, popular music even back to the Swing Era, and from our singing friends around the world,” said Dick Jackson, Gettin’ Higher Choir co-director.
