Victoria BC’s All female folk-roots quartet GENEVIEVE AND THE WILD SUNDAYS Announces an Islands CD Release tour of their debut CD “Fine Line” APRIL 2016 Soaring harmonies, catchy songs, original folk-roots music. This is Genevieve and the Wild Sundays.
This all-female quartet features the award-winning songs of Vancouver-Island-based homesteading mama Genevieve Charbonneau. With Kelly Sherwin on upright bass, Laura Carleton on percussion and Chandra Crowe on mandolin, the music of the Wild Sundays is rooted in folk and old-time country, incorporating bluegrass rhythms, Americana, and pop.
After the immediate success of her award-winning solo album, “Updraft”, Cowichan Valley based singer-songwriter Genevieve Charbonneau sought to bring together a group of talented and creative women to back her up. Genevieve recruited musicians from her other creative projects including the Balkan Babes and KivaBEAT, and with the addition of an old friend with a mandolin, “Genevieve and the Wild Sundays” was formed. Two years later, the Wilds hit the studio with Wynn Gogol from 1 Ton Studios and recorded 12 original songs for their debut album, “Fine Line”.
The songs, which run from insightful love ballads to rollicking political hootenannies, are characterized by layers of sweet vocal harmony, solid rhythms and clean mandolin pickings. Guest artists on the recording include Zavallennahh Huscroft on fidola and Catherine Black (Outlaw Social) on banjo, rounding out the folky, acoustic sound.
