Victoria Genealogical Society Workshop: London - presented by Gerry Poulton. Trying to find your way around the maze that is London? I will try to give you some hints which will hopefully make your search easier and more productive.
Among the topics to be discussed are: London – what area is covered? Where should I really be looking? London boundaries have changed over the years, as well as some of the local names.
We will look at: General sources of information on London Maps, Census records, Birth/marriage/death/burial records, Parish records, Electoral records, School entrance, Wills & probates, Other records such as guilds, trade associations, etc. Visiting London?
Where should I go? London Metropolitan Archives (LMA) Society of Genealogists (SOGS) Museum of London County Record Offices Do you have brick walls? Bring along your questions and we will have a go at solving them.
