Come celebrate some of Canada’s finest writers who have traveled to Gabriola to share with you a one-of-a-kind experience of readings, music, delicious bites, great company and so much more!

Rachel Rose

Vancouver’s poet laureate Rachel Rose is a dual American/Canadian citizen whose work has appeared in various journals in Canada, the U.S., New Zealand and Japan, including Poetry, The Malahat Review and The Best American Poetry, as well as numerous anthologies.

Her most recent book, Song & Spectacle (2012), won the Audre Lorde Poetry Award in the U.S. and the Pat Lowther Award in Canada. She is the winner of the Peterson Memorial Prize for poetry and the Bronwen Wallace award for fiction, and the recipient of a 2014 Pushcart Prize.

Susan Juby

Susan Juby is the author of ten books, including the bestselling children’s novel Alice, I Think (made into a 13-part television series); Globe and Mail Top 100 pick memoir Nice Recovery; Leacock-nominated novel for adults The Woefield Poultry Collective, and its just-released sequel The Republic of Dirt.

Juby is an acclaimed “innovator in the field of young adult fiction”. She teaches at Vancouver Island University and lives in Nanaimo.

Michael Kusugak

Michael Kusugak grew up in Repulse Bay, NWT (now Nunavut), living a traditional Inuit lifestyle. He learned storytelling from his grandmother and his uncles, listening to their wonderful stories falling asleep in an igloo.

Michael has written 15 children’s books and has won numerous awards including the Ruth Schwartz Award for Children’s Literature and the prestigious Vicky Metcalf Award for a body of work in Children’s Literature. He continues to tell stories, write and travel across Canada and around the world.

Daniel Petersen

You may have seen Daniel Petersen working around the island, but have you heard him play guitar? If not, you’ve been missing out. Daniel is a graduate of Vancouver Island University’s Music Program and has started expanding his musical horizons here on Gabriola.
