The Campbell River Grandmothers to Grandmothers group (G2G) raises funds for the Stephen Lewis Foundation (SLF) which supports the efforts of African grandmothers raising children orphaned by AIDS. The group which has existed for five years, was inspired by Stephen Lewis's book Race Against Time, urging action to support the many needs of people facing seemingly insurmountable obstacles. In those five years the G2G has raised and donated over $46,000 to the SLF which supports over 300 grassroots groups in Africa achieve their goals of providing school fees, school uniforms, housing, counseling, support groups and home visits to AIDS victims, their children and the grandparents who struggle to meet their needs. The Campbell River Grandmothers hold several fundraisers each year, and support the Victoria Grandmothers group that organizes an awareness-raising bike-ride down Vancouver Island every September. Grandmothers groups across Canada have contributed more than $13,000,000 to the Grandmothers to Grandmothers campaign in the 6 years since the campaign started.
