From Retired Teacher to Climate Leader: Salt Spring Forum Presents Don Steinke

The Salt Spring Forum welcomes Don Steinke – a Washington State resident and retired high school science teacher who has become a highly effective leader in the movement against the expansion of fossil fuel infrastructure – for a discussion about environmental activism. Don Steinke is an ordinary citizen having a major impact in the fight against climate change. His work has largely focused on his local government and the transportation of crude oil by rail. Steinke helped stop a new oil terminal at the Port of Vancouver, Washington, through a local government resolution that has been followed by 57 other communities. He has also helped stop 24 other fossil fuel proposals in the last six years by working with a coalition of activists along the Lower Columbia River.
With the Canadian government about to make a final decision on the Kinder Morgan pipeline and tanker expansion project, this topic could not be more timely!
Tickets available at ArtSpring - 250.537.2102 and www.tickets.artspring.ca - and at Salt Spring Books.
*Special announcement: due to a generous local donor, event fees will be waived for anyone who is actively fighting climate change – if this applies to you, contact [email protected] in advance for your complimentary ticket.
