Archives Lecture: John Nobili, S.J., Mission to New Caledonia, 1845-1848 Marie Elliottt
In 1844 the Italian priest John Nobili, S.J., took up the perilous life of a missionary in the Pacific Northwest. For the next four years he met with First Nations along the HBC fur brigade route that led from Fort Vancouver to Babine Lake, and reported his progress regularly to the Father General in Rome. Marie will examine new information she has gleaned from his recently-translated letters.
