For the Highlanders:
After fighting for centuries to keep their culture and independence, the Scots lost both through the greed and treachery of the landowners of the day. Under English rule, the Highland Clearances swiftly followed, brutally evicting thousands of Highland tenant-farmers to make way for sheep. Some survived on windswept, infertile crofting townships. Others emigrated. Both groups fought hardship with courage and resilience, and their culture thrives today across oceans and continents."For the Highlanders" is a concert-length production comprising original poetry and music redolent with the culture.
~ Original poetry by John Beaton.
