Maria Dunn has been described as “a true preserver of the spirit of folk music,” and been compared to Woody Guthrie for her sense of social justice and her songs about ordinary people. Her 2016 independent album, Gathering, was nominated for a Juno award and won the 2016 Edmonton Music Prize. Proceeds from the concert will benefit the Grandmothers Campaign of the Stephen Lewis Foundation, which supports the grandmothers in sub-Saharan Africa who are raising their grandchildren, orphaned by the AIDS & HIV pandemic.
