"This is folk rock in 2011; peppered with enough experimentation to turn heads, but still true to its roots."
Jeff McAllister, Gray Owl Point

"Feelin' a little like an old pair of jeans that you grew out of..."

So begins Fish & Bird's 3rd album, Every Whisper is a Shout Across the Void. The group, once known as a quirky folk duo, have grown into something much more. Lead singer Taylor Ashton's soaring vocals are stronger than ever, with his syncopated clawhammer banjo floating in underneath, joined by the unmistakeable voice of Adam Iredale-Gray's fiddle. For the album's first, tense moments, the original duo that pushed the boundaries of folk on their 2007 self-titled debut and 2009's Left Brain Blues are apparent. However, when the rhythm section of Zoe Guigueno (upright bass/harmonies), Ryan Boeur (guitar), and Ben Kelly (drums) kick in, the sparse intro transforms into the frantic fullness of the song Well Run Dry, and the band introduces their cohesive new sound.

"The feeling behind a whisper is what makes it a shout. Fish & Bird is a band full of feeling, and this album is a shout worth hearing."
Meghan Sheffield, Roots Music Canada

"Every Whisper..." definitely shows where Fish & Bird are at now. The growth into a five-piece happened naturally, the new band members each made appearances on Left Brain Blues and are all longtime friends of Ashton and Iredale-Gray. This is the first album to consistently feature the new line up, but the group have already played hundreds of shows and dozens of festivals across Canada, and they show no signs of stopping!

Among other things Fish & Bird have grown out of is their signature touring vehicle, a japanese minivan famous for running on vegetable oil. They recently purchased and converted a newer, bigger van to veggie oil and continue to make those on the highway next to them crave french fries as they travel!
