FIRST SUNDAY DANCE JAM Mindful Movement with Samantha Letourneau with Live Music by Paul Manly & Stephen Wolf

This month's facilitator is Samantha Letourneau - a musician, dance artist and yogini, currently studying Laban Movement Analysis.

Through studying Laban’s concepts, I have gained a deeper understanding in how the way we move is related to how we perceive and knowing this gives me the ability to increase my movement possibilities." “At the heart of Laban's work is recognition that movement is an outward expression of inner intent.” Ed Groff.

Explore how authentic movement serves as a means of personal expression and communication. Participants will engage in body awareness and movement inspired by concepts found within Laban Movement Analysis, with live music by Paul Manly and Stephen Wolf.

Rudolf Laban was a dance artist and researcher whose theories and practices on human movement have influenced the fields of; dance, movement therapy, communication, and acting. He is notable as one of the pioneers of modern dance in Europe.

Letourneau’s training includes Introduction to Laban Movement Analysis from Certified Movement Analyst (CMA) and a Registered Somatic Movement Educator (RSME) Donna Redlick, a Master in Adult Education, through St Francis Xavier University, focusing on the transformative possibilities of art engagement, Contemporary dance and dance therapy training with a focus on bio- energetics and healing through dance from UK/ Vancouver based dance artist, educator and choreographer Clare Cunningham and an International Diploma in the Performing Arts from the School for Traditional Sundanese music and dance in Indonesia.

Samantha's work has led her to developing innovative arts based community programming in partnership with various not for- profits and art organizations in British Columbia and Quebec.
