Fascinating Rhythm's 25th Anniversary Show

In challenging times for music retail and the music industry in general, thousands of music stores have closed down worldwide in recent years. Yet, operating in a small Vancouver Island city, Nanaimo's Fascinating Rhythm is still alive and kicking after 25 years. Originally opening in Country Club Mall on November 1, 1988, the store is approaching a decade of trading downtown within a proud community of independent retailers, enjoying acclaim from such as CBC's Stuart McLean (Vinyl Caf), punk rock hero Jello Biafra and, most recently, blues legend Robert Cray when he visited Nanaimo to play the Port Theatre.
All year long Fascinating Rhythm has been celebrating a quarter-century in business with promotions, competitions, in-store performances and, in cahoots with noted local music veterans and CHLY, a special show in July with experimental rock legend Damo Suzuki. On Friday November 1, 2013 - 25 years to the day that store owner Steve Lebitschning opened Fascinating Rhythm's doors - the celebrations will conclude by thanking the community that has supported the store for two-and-a-half decades with a near-six hour show featuring the cream of local talent.
Featuring, in order of appearance, are electronica dreamers COLLIDING CANYONS; acclaimed veteran singer-songwriter GLEN FOSTER; the silky jazz of the WIGMORE/DEVOIN/SHIPLEY TRIO; beautiful bluegrass from HUB CITY RAMBLERS; "gentleman's techno" from the inimitable TOP MEN and, propelling Fascinating Rhythm into its 26th year, visceral Detroit-style punk rock 'n' roll from LITHIUM HALO.
Party of the year? You bet!
