Simply put, a brotherhood of four from Vancouver Island, who make people (and themselves) feel good playing great music. They're all seasoned professionals with their own notable careers, but when they come together the vibe is so natural and in sync, it is undeniable they were meant to play music together. It's a fresh take on a classic sound; straight up rock 'n roll that's warm and inviting, building grooves to soaring crescendos and catchy choruses. Fans & Motor Supply Co. pays homage to the time-honored sounds of The Band, Little Feat or The Allman Bros, with crunchy guitar tones, vintage keyboards, and bass and drums sitting deep in the pocket, but steers skillfully around sounding like a replica. And the audience can feel them having a great time doing it.
Fans & Motor Supply Co. prefer the back to basics approach, with pen and paper, analogue, old guitar tones and whirling Leslies. It's not that they don't embrace technology, but rather enjoy the feel of an axe to that of a smart phone. In the liner notes of the band's debut album Quiet Dream, is the simple phrase, "We used to get ripped on music, now music gets ripped onto computers," which sums up the ideology of Fans & Motor Supply Co., it's not just about downloads on the latest platform, it's about the music and the way it makes you feel.
And make you feel it does. Quiet Dream is a recorded collection that pours the live energy of Fans & Motor Supply Co. out of the speakers. Clear, crispy guitar and lush organs carry stories of history, love, and the human condition through the air, while grounding them with the heartbeat of the rhythm section. Lead out track "Davey and Clara" sets the tone and tempo, and it's full on groove with a sing-along inducing chorus. "Helen of Troy" tells the story with Hendrix-style guitars, and "Heaven, Purgatory, Hell and The Blues" dirges along with full on 70's keyboards. The title track "Quiet Dream"marches along with just enough twang to call it country rock, while "Rosemary" drags itself from a slow, tragic genesis to a soaring, hypnotic culmination of sounds. Quiet Dream may not be quiet in sound, but it is quiet in pretension, and heaped full of dreams
