The Nanaimo Museum has planned activities for people of all ages for BC Family day weekend. To share in the spirit of the 2018 Winter Olympic Games, the museum is hosting Olympic-themed activities. Olympics @ The Museum takes place Saturday and Olympic Eye Spy is on the holiday Monday.
Families of all ages will enjoy activities that are a fusion of Olympics and heritage themes. “We want people to be hands-on with history,” says Stephanie Kveton, Program Coordinator at the Nanaimo Museum. “Turning the activities into Olympic events makes them fun and adds a competitive edge.”
Olympics @ The Museum is on Saturday, February 10 from 10am-4pm. The Olympic events include Skeet Sorting, Freestyle Framing, People-Chase and Artifact Pentathlon. “The events are artifact-based,” says Kveton. “This is a great opportunity to handle historical objects at the museum.” The activities are on-going Saturday and will appeal to people ages 5-95. The Olympic activities at the museum encourage visitors to cheer for Canada and history on social media.
On Monday, the Nanaimo Museum is open for BC Family day from 10am-4pm. Take a self-guided tour of the museum or participate in Olympic Eye Spy. Discover home-grown Olympians in Nanaimo’s Sports Hall of Fame in the museum’s lobby.
Admission is by donation to the museum. Caregivers must be present at all times. For more details please visit www.nanaimomuseum.ca, email [email protected] or call 250 753-1821. The Nanaimo Museum is in the Vancouver Island Conference Centre, beside Serious Coffee.
