Exploring Reconciliation with Dr. Judith Sayers

Vancouver Island University’s Centre for Pre-Confederation Treaties and Reconciliation is pleased to present Exploring Reconciliation, a new, free monthly lecture series that aims to stimulate community dialogue.
On Monday, December 4, Dr. Judith Sayers, President of the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council, will launch the series with her talk - Everything You Want to Know about Reconciliation, but are too Afraid to Ask.
Her presentation will explore:
• Is it possible for Canadian governments and First Nations peoples to work together to walk into the future in a good way?
• Reconciliation is a complex concept that holds a different meaning for each individual. Can we find a common definition?
• What are the opportunities and barriers to resolving past grievances and finding new solutions for reconciliation?
About Dr. Judith Sayers Kekinusuqs, Dr. Judith Sayers, is the President of the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council. She is an adjunct professor with both the school of Business and Environmental Studies at the University of Victoria. Judith has been the Visiting National Aboriginal Economic Development Chair and an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Business and Law at the University of Victoria. Judith practiced law for 18 years and served fourteen years as Chief of the Hupacasath First Nation. As Chief of her First Nation, she focused on capacity building and sustainable development. Judith was instrumental in several sustainable development projects and put in place mechanisms to help protect the territory.
