6:00 PM to 8:00 PM

What does it feel like to be far from shore, standing on the ocean floor, as the sun sets in front of you and the ocean approaches slowly from behind? Join us in the intertidal zone at Willow Point Reef to explore organisms normally hidden from view, but always so close to our terrestrial home.

You’ll hear some stories of the intertidal world: who provides the food, who eats who, how do they find mates, who’s the Methuselah, who’s the bully. But this is just the beginning.

This walk will encourage participants to spend some time in quiet observation, watching and listening as their own questions come to mind. We hope you’ll experience the relaxation that comes from the simple act of observing the natural world. This isn’t a very low tide, but will allow you to feel the unusual experience of being far from shore, but still on land.

To experience this workshop in the most comfortable way, please dress for the weather; it’s generally cooler at the beach. Most importantly, rubber boots are essential to access the furthest extent of the reef without getting wet legs! The surface can be extremely slippery and wet; walking poles are an asset and you should feel comfortable walking on uneven surfaces.

The workshop starts from Highway 19A at Larwood Rd. Parking is limited, please leave a few minutes to park on Larwood Road and not in the plaza parking lot.

The walk is from 6:00 – 7:30 PM on Saturday, April 9.
