The Errington Hall invites music lovers to broaden their cultural horizons this summer with our suite of four world music workshops. The ninety-minute sessions will introduce rhythms and melodies from Brazil, Hawaii, Mexico, Ireland, and Latin America using authentic instruments.
This new program targets those at the beginner and intermediate levels who would like to deepen their appreciation of world cultures by learning from professional artist/ instructors. Participants can choose one or more workshops since they are scheduled on consecutive evenings.
The outstanding faculty members are Anna Lyman, who teaches ukulele at the Victoria Conservatory of Music, Maninho Costa, musician and Brazilian Batucada percussion teacher, Robin Layne, percussion instructor with the Sarah McLachlan School of Music, and Fahlon Palm, music specialist with the Penticton School District. All are experienced workshop leaders who make music fun to learn in a welcoming, joyful environment.
Fahlon will be offering Celtic Marimba on August 10, Robin’s teaching Latin Marimba on August 11, Anna’s teaching Hawaiian and Mexican Ukulele on August 12, and Maninho Costa is leading Brazilian Percussion on August 13. All sessions are from 7:00pm to 8:30pm at the Errington Hall. One or more sessions can be selected at a cost of $20 each.
The program is supported by an Oceanside Services Recreation Grant.
