Ensemble Laude: Celebration and Contemplation
add to outlook add to google calendar remind me
To hear Ensemble Laude is to be spirited away.
This remarkable group of singers, directed by the inimitable Elizabeth MacIsaac, performs mostly a capella; occasionally with oud, percussion and period instruments. The music is wild and pure, beautiful, odd, and rapturous.
But what you experience at an Ensemble Laude event cant be explained in words. Come and discover what our fans have known for years: you just have to be there. Let us take you to sparkling places that exist only in music, and perhaps in starry dreams and distant memory.
"..stunning choral music...a revelation...their selections opened eyes and ears to all the possibilities awaiting singers willing to work hard together toward the concept of ensemble." -Cowichan Valley Citizen
"Breathtakingly beautiful." -Catherine Young (Victoria Conservatory of Music)
Description:
Celebration & Contemplation is a music double feature, if you will.
Audience members will attend one or both short concerts, about 40 mins each. Come to both for the whole experience! Please be prepared to donate separately for each concert.
Between concerts (at about 3 pm) we are hosting an eclectic party for all of our audience members! Ensemble Laude merchandise, refreshments, lively performances, a raffle, treats for the children, and much more will be on offer. Bring a reusable bag to take your goodies home!
2:00 pm Celebration: This concert explores choral art from many cultures and eras. Sometimes colourful and wacky, sometimes luminous and haunting, this unique repertoire thrills audiences every time. Songs this season include Le Choeur des Trembleurs and other French songs, as well as works in Estonian, Spanish, Georgian, Arabic, Finnish, Latin, Gaelic and English. Families with children are especially invited to enjoy Celebration. By donation.
4:00 pm Contemplation: This will be a restful, reflective concert, with choral music that cherishes beauty and tranquility in song. The audience will withhold applause, so that all may relax and let the music caress the soul. Repertoire includes Usberg's Muusika, works by Canadian composers Nicholas Fairbank and Stephen Chatman, and several medieval polyphonies. By donation.
Ensemble Laude is a non-profit society, and we depend on your donations to keep making beautiful music. Please give as generously as you can, and invite your friends and family! To arrange larger donations which require a tax receipt, contact us at ensemblelaude.org
