Emerging Voices, our play workshop series, supports new play development, providing local theatre lovers a chance to participate in the creative process and, for playwrights, an invaluable platform to refine and develop their work with the support of professional actors and TheatreOne dramaturg Jessica Schacht.
The first of our three plays is "The Ties That Bind" by Yvette Menard.
This play is a story about choices, when we’re happy with them, and when we’re not. After reading Beckett’s ‘Happy Days’, I had to ask myself: at what point did Winnie decide she was fine with being stuck? What is the opposite of that?
In ‘The Ties that Bind’, Martha recounts how choices she has made in the past ten, twenty, thirty years. They were good choices at the time, but what about now? Do those choices still fit the life she wants to create now?
