Musical icon Elvin Bishop moved to Chicago from the flatlands of Oklahoma in the late 1950s to attend the University of Chicago, but soon found himself deeply schooled in the blues. In 1963 he hooked up with harmonica player Paul Butterfield, and became lead guitarist for the legendary band that gets the most credit for introducing white America to the blues. Five years later he went solo and formed the Elvin Bishop Group, going on to record 20 albums amidst a memorable six-decade career. Oh, and then there was that little song he wrote called “Fooled Around and Fell In Love,” a well-loved classic recently featured on the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack. Add in a few Grammy nominations and recent induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and it’s clear why this easy-going guitar slinger is called a legend. With his most recent release Big Fun Trio topping blues radio charts, Bishop returns to Victoria with his rockin’ sextet, which includes Ed Earley (trombone/percussion), Bob Welsh (guitar/piano), Ruth Davies (bass), S.E Willis (keyboards/accordion), and Bobby Cochran (drums/vocals).
