Every corner you turn, you hear another story of an animal in need, but once in a while one touches your heart so deep that you cant sleep, that it becomes your soul purpose and mission in life to help. That was the way we felt when we hear of Izzy�s story.

Izzy came to her family as a rescue for the Yukon. She was the perfect puppy for the Ellis family. When the Eliss�s took her to be spayed at 6 months old ( just 2 months after they adopted her) They were not prepared for what they were about to hear. They were told that their new family member has Thrombocytopenia ( a condition where blood platelets become too low) Over the next few weeks, they noticed Izzy was not herself. She was stiff in the hind end and was showing signs of pain. They decided to take Izzy to the vet only to receive even worse news. The Ellis�s were going to have to make a decision. Either let Izzy live a short life and have her put down in what could be a very short time or try to raise enough money to have the surgery that Izzy needs. With surgery, Izzy will be able to go on and live a healthy happy long life. The surgery she needs is not only a total hip replacement, but due to the Thrombocytopenia she will also need a blood plasma transfusion. This is a specialized procedure which can only be performed in Vancouver by a vet that will need to fly in from Calgary to perform the surgery. This however comes at a HUGE expense, one that the young family is not prepared financially for. Total cost will be over $10,000.

Seeing the love this family has for this dog, seeing their little girls eyes light up when she hugs her new best friend is how ELVES FOR IZZY came to be. Dogs Do Smile, along with Gunnars Place have decided to help the Ellis's raise funds for Izzy.
