Oct. 4, 2014 – World Animal Day

In recognition of World Animal Day on Oct. 4th, Elephant Earth will be hosting a special event at Dales Gallery to raise awareness about the crises facing elephants and rhinos.

Dag Goering, reknowned local photographer, modern-day explorer and co-owner of Hidden Places Travel, will be showing a new incarnation of ‘Elephant Enigma’, an exhibit premiered at Dales Gallery 5 years ago, which has shown to great acclaim across North America, Europe and Asia.

Goering’s intent is to inspire through wonderment: “I want to let viewers experience the beauty and magnificence of these amazing creatures. Anyone who gets a real sense of elephants simply cannot standby while they go extinct.”

Unrelenting demand for their ivory is causing elephants to be slaughtered at a rate of about one every 15 minutes. If the pace of this massacre continues, the world’s largest land mammal could be extinct in the wild in just over a decade. Witnessing first-hand the devastation wrought by poachers is what led Dag Goering and his wife, author Maria Coffey, to found Elephant Earth, the conservation arm of Hidden Places. Elephant Earth has been endorsed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama for its good work on elephant conservation and welfare.

The opening of this powerful exhibit begins at 4:00 PM on Saturday and includes a presentation by Goering about the life-and-death challenges facing elephants and how Elephant Earth is making a difference.

Place: Dales Gallery in Chinatown, 537 Fisgard St., Victoria. (250) 383-1552

Time:   4 – 6 pm, Oct. 4, 2014
