ECLECTICA:expressionist perspectives

THREE DIFFERENT FACETS OF EXPRESSIONISM ARE FEATURED IN THIS EXHIBITION.

JAMES ROBERTS ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONIST ON CANVAS

Years of experience in the field of design have flowed into bold abstracts that speak of adventure in color field and composition. His style shows an affinity for the New York School of Abstract Expressionists such as DeKooning or Rothko.

James explores the texturing of concrete powder on canvas to create hard and deep structure on which to build his color field. The addition of this process into his new line of Round and Half-Round canvases culminates in fascinating richly colourful three dimensional works and has garnered attention from various galleries in British Columbia and Alberta.

SHARON BUSSARD-GROVE ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONIST WITH CERAMICS

A graduate of Sheridan College of Art,as well as a University of Calgary/Fine Art, Sharon draws from an emotional perspective to create abstract forms that invites the viewer to experience the dialogue on contemporary issues.

Her style embraces the ephemeral archetype and expands on the traditional methods of ceramic production. The incorporation of glass, organic, and synthetic materials on surface and form become the expletive elements.

This body of work questions the ethics of our dependence on oil.

SUZANNE JENSEN - EXPRESSIONIST ON CANVAS

Suzanne's history of living ,sailing, and building boats has established a strong emotional connection to the West Coast and the environment. She paints large striking canvases depicting the Salmon Redd thus highlighting the fragile survival of BC salmon. This successful series is in collections in BC, Alberta,Ontario and Quebec.

The work in this exhibition expands to iconic West Coast scenes as well. Contrasting brush strokes, leaning against palette knife edges emphasizes the texture of her work. The occasional fingerprint smudge, organic objects find their way onto canvas as surf lines or mossy bushes. Her deconstruction of water into many colors creates a lively feeling of motion that engages the eye to wander the canvases.
