About Kevin Roy

As the tamaracks shed their needles in the fall of 2013, Kevin Roy wandered from the beaten path. He left a life of certainty, a professional career, in search of purpose through his love of songs, stories, and the open road. Raised in Winnipeg, at the heart of the tall grass prairie, Kevin Roy was captivated by recordings of Neil Young, Gram Parsons, and Tony Rice. Such artists provided the tools to build a foundation near the borders of folk and country.

Over the summer of 2013, with producer/engineer Lloyd Peterson (The Weakerthans, The Wailin' Jennys) and mastering by Juno award winner, Jamie Sitar (Randy Bachman, Bif Naked). Kevin Roy recorded his debut EP, Taller than the Trees. He is backed by a five piece acoustic ensemble that features former Wailin' Jennys fiddler, Jeremy Penner. Whether pining for lost love or protesting the government's removal of funding for the Experimental Lakes Area, Taller than the Trees is about living for your desires regardless of life's uncertainties. With the album complete, Kevin Roy has quickly taken to the road. He has booked a month long tour of western Canada to promote his release, with eastern dates to follow.

As a musician, Kevin Roy has been a part of many bands, notably, as a lead guitarist and vocalist with Kayla Luky. He has had the privilege to play festivals and shows with artists such as The Deep Dark Woods, Ridley Bent, and Fish & Bird.

With guitar, harmonica, and a seemingly endless repertoire of originals and timeless classics, Kevin Roy is poised to connect the dots across this vast country sharing songs and stories at live music venues, cafes, houses, bars, pubs, and street corners.
