For A Hopping Good Time Attend the Downtown Easter Spring Fling If you are looking for a great way to keep the family entertained on that final weekend of Spring Break, get outdoors and head downtown for the annual Downtown Easter Spring Fling during Festival Nanaimo.

The plaza will be hopping with lots of family-friendly children focused activities. The day will kick off with a pancake breakfast being served up by the folks from Grill It, at only $4 for children and $5 for adults. Easter treat bags will be available at the DNBIA information tent for the first 500 children.

The morning music kicks off with Ian Johnstone who will perform on the Community Stage. Dubbed "Canada's Musical Ambassador to Kids" he will be sure to have the whole family tapping their toes and singing along. Woofy and Brent return to the stage. Children and their parents will be delighted to be reunited with Brent and Woofy for their special brand of comedy and music. Hocus pocus will abound with a 30 minute, interactive performance with Magician Craig McKee. Kids will be delighted by the antics of Twiggly Wiggly the Clown who will be in the plaza throughout the day and on stage for a 30-minute show in the afternoon with his special brand of comedy and magic. We will also have dancers performing from Harbour Dancentre and Vibe Dance Studio. Enter the colouring contest, create a spring themed craft or pal around with the Easter Bunny who will be hopping by during the event.

Children will have an opportunity to get their hands dirty at the Spring Potting Shed. Plant veggie or flower seeds to take home in time for spring planting. Looking for good old fashioned outdoor fun? Visit the “Play Station” which will have plenty of activities for the wee ones.

If your children love fire trucks or police cars, they can get a first-hand peek inside both, as Nanaimo Fire and Rescue and the RCMP will be on hand educating children and their parents on fire safety and crime prevention. Don't forget to visit Vi for free face painting or head into Jump Around's bouncy castles and jump for joy that spring is here. We will have tables with information about the upcoming May 7th Bookfest, where parents can pick up ticket information about the children's event or be sure to stop by the Ecole Quarterway PAC Bake Sale.

Don't forget parents who are driving downtown may park at the following City of Nanaimo lots for free all day: Bastion Street Parkade (236 Bastion Street), 340 Wallace Street, 299 Selby Street, 35 & 95 Cavan Street, and 150 Comox Road (Maffeo Sutton Park).
