Victoria Genealogical Society Speaker Series featuring author and historian Merna Forster who will give a presentation about her recent discovery of African American cousins, the journey to meet them, and visits to plantations and other places in Louisiana connected to the story.
Thanks to DNA testing, she uncovered a new branch of her family tree in the Deep South. Though Merna had documented many of her American ancestors and painful links to slavery, she’d completely missed her African American relatives.
Join Merna as she reveals the adventure of uncovering a hidden heritage – and the ongoing research with her cousins to explore their roots. Doors open at 7pm and presentations start at 7:30.
Entry by donation or free for VGS members. Come early and network with other like minded people and perhaps you'll find that person who can help you break down your genealogy brick walls.
